KOKUMU WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM BRINGS SAFE AND CLEAN WATER TO LALE SUB COUNTY
Residents of Lale Sub County in Soroti District can now enjoy access to safe and clean water following the commissioning of the Kokumu Water Supply System.
This initiative is expected to address the longstanding issue of inadequate water supply in the sub county.
Officiating the commissioning ceremony on March 5, 2026, Soroti Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Ronald Bakak reaffirmed the government's commitment to ensuring that every community across the country has access to clean water.
Bakak emphasized that the newly constructed water supply system aligns with the Government of Uganda’s mission to provide safe drinking water to all communities.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE), Mary Aloyo said that the ministry secured funding from UK Export Finance to facilitate the construction of 678 solar-powered water supply and irrigation systems across the country.
Aloyo noted that the project aims to improve access to clean water and boost agricultural productivity, ultimately enhancing the economic conditions of the beneficiaries.
The Kokumu Water Supply System, valued at UGX 385 million, was constructed by Nexus Green and will be managed by the Umbrella of Water and Sanitation.
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) of Soroti, Mr. Elly Piwang, expressed gratitude to the government for prioritizing safe and clean water supply.
Piwang reiterated the government’s policy that every village must have a borehole and emphasized that this new water system would significantly benefit a large portion of the community that previously struggled to access clean water.
LC III Chairperson of Lale Sub County, Mr. Osman Oyoma, also commended the government for fulfilling its promise of clean water access and encouraged residents to embrace government programs aimed at improving their livelihoods.
Onyoma also urged the community to safeguard the facility to ensure its sustainability.
The water supply system will serve key institutions, including Lale Health Facility II, Olilim Primary School, Lale Primary School, and the surrounding centers of Kokumu, Otengangi and the surrounding village.
