Summary of Today’s Activities – 6 August 2026

1. Office of the President/RDC Secretariat inspects government projects

The Office of the President/RDC Secretariat conducted an inspection of capital development projects implemented during FY 2025/2026 to assess their impact on communities and establish whether the interventions delivered value for money.

The inspection team was led by Senior Presidential Advisor Mr. Ssekiboobo Dan and included the District Vice Chairperson, Hon. Ronald Ewou, representing the District Chairperson, Hon. Bob Owiny; Deputy RDC Mr. Yeko Bulubulu; Assistant RDCs; PAS Mr. Esatu Moses, representing the Chief Administrative Officer; the District Education Officer, District Water Officer, District Engineer, District Health Officer, District Community Development Officer, District Auditor, and other technical staff.

The team inspected several projects, including boreholes in Ongwengai and Aminit villages in Kamuda Sub-county, Aboket–Kamuda Road, education projects at Kelim-Tubur, a five-stance pit latrine, renovation of a two-classroom block at Aminit Primary School, Tubur Low-Cost Seal Road in Tubur Town Council, and a micro-irrigation project in Agirigiroi, Arapai Sub-county.

The exercise aimed at assessing the quality of works executed, project impact on communities, value for money, and the extent to which the projects have achieved their intended objectives in accordance with government service delivery standards.

2. District and TiP monitor community economic empowerment projects

Soroti District, together with TiP, a development partner, conducted monitoring of community economic empowerment projects in Amoru Village, Awaliwal Parish, Awaliwal Sub-county.

The monitoring team comprised Hon. Christine Aploto, Secretary for Social Services; Ms. Joy Christine Apolot, Senior Commercial Officer; Mr. Elayu Samuel, Inspector of Schools; Mr. Thomas Epiangu, Ag. District Veterinary Officer; Mr. Egudu Francis, Community Development Officer/Focal Person for NGO Activities; representatives of the District NGO Monitoring Committee (DNMC); and TiP Board members and staff.

The team appreciated the efforts of TiP in supporting livelihood improvement initiatives aimed at poverty reduction and assessed the contribution of the projects towards improving the welfare of communities.

3. Water User Committees receive refresher training

Thirteen Water User Committees from Katine Town Council received refresher training organised by Welthungerhilfe.

The committees comprised Local Council I Chairpersons, Water User Committee Chairpersons, treasurers, secretaries, and caretakers.

The training focused on strengthening community management, operation, and sustainability of water facilities.

4. Farmers prepare tomato nursery beds in Ocokican Sub-county

Members of the Acandiang Farmers Group in Ocokican Sub-county prepared tomato nursery beds with support from Mr. Asau John Francis, Agricultural Officer.

The initiative is aimed at promoting commercial agriculture and improving farmers’ productivity and household incomes.

5. Busitema University and Soroti District support farmer groups with agricultural inputs

The Production Department, in partnership with Busitema University, distributed agricultural inputs to farmer groups in Ocokican Sub-county as part of efforts to strengthen agribusiness enterprises among farmers.

The Acandiang Farmers Group received tomato seeds sufficient for two acres, knapsack sprayers, organic fertiliser, and pesticides, while Odukai Women’s Peas Group received one-month-old chicks to support poultry production.

The partnership between Busitema University and Soroti District seeks to enhance agricultural enterprises through technical support, improved production practices, and access to essential inputs.

The Busitema University team was led by Dr. Opio Peter, while the district delegation was led by Hon. Orisa Francis, Secretary for Production, and District Agricultural Officer Mr. Okello Moses Echeku.

6. Education Department prepares for District Primary Schools Ball Games

The Education Department finalized preparations for the District Primary Schools Ball Games Competition scheduled for Friday, 7 August 2026, at Aminit Primary School, starting at 9:00 a.m.

The District Sports Officer spent the day marking the playing fields in preparation for the event, which will bring together schools from all sub-counties in Soroti District.

The competition is expected to promote talent development, teamwork, and sportsmanship among learners.

7. Community Development Department sensitizes communities on UWEP through radio talk show

The Community Development Department conducted a radio talk show on Kyoga Veritas FM focusing on the Uganda Women Entrepreneurship Programme (UWEP) and its role in supporting women’s economic empowerment and livelihood improvement.

The programme was attended by the District Community Development Officer (DCDO), Mr. John Robert Egwayu, and Senior Community Development Officer, Ms. Agut Sarah.

During the discussion, the officers encouraged community members to actively participate in government programmes aimed at improving household incomes and promoting self-reliance. They also reminded UWEP beneficiaries to fulfil their responsibility of repaying the funds received so that other eligible groups can also benefit from the revolving programme.

The talk show was successfully conducted and provided an opportunity to create awareness about UWEP implementation, beneficiary responsibilities, and the importance of community participation in government initiatives.
