Soroti Girls Rights Initiative (SGRI) held Reflection Meeting on Situational Analysis with Representatives from Different Stake Holders.
SGRI is a community-based organisation located in north-eastern Uganda.
It was founded in 2017 by a group of young adolescent girls with the aim of reducing gender-based violence and child marriage. With gender equality at the centre of their mission statement, SGRI aims to campaign for girls' right to education and advocate against human rights abuses.
SGRI is partnering with Soroti district Local Government and is operating in Arapai sub county for the previous financial year.
The objectivity of the meeting was;
To analyze the problems affecting the areas of operation in Arapai in regards to early child marriage and also to determine the extent of the problem causing early child marriage and Gender based Violence.
During the meeting, Christine Aumo, the Director SGRI said the most of young girls have been forced involved in to early marriage due to challenges they faced in the community.
Aumo added SGRI reported a case of concerning cross generation of sex for example in Aloet 45-year-old man was found marrying the 15-year-old girl in favour Wealth.
SGRI made innervations geared towards addressing the issue such as Sexual reproductive health educations, trained girls on social economic strength for instance, Tailoring, Bakery, Sanitary Pads making.
In attendance was the Soroti RDC Patrick Okumu as Chief guest who applauded efforts of SGRI in community development. Others include DISO Robert Tukundane and the district technical staff.
