SOROTI DISTRICT HAS OFFICIALLY LAUNCHED THE 2024 NATIONAL POPULATION AND HOUSING CENSUS.

The official launch was at Tubur Town Council by the Senior Presidential Advisor, Mr Elasu Charles.

Mr Elasu who is also NRM District Chairperson Soroti, encouraged the people to embrace the Census exercise so as to help the government generate data for planning.

He was together with district political and technical leadership, ( the District Chairperson, Hon Edoru Simon Peter Ekuu, Mr Kumakech Salim RDC, DISO Soroti Mr Olyet John, DPC, CAO, and the district census officials, leadership of Tubur Town Council and Tubur subcounty, and the Community).

that we are only a few hours left until census night, we as leaders in Soroti district are urging the residents to wholeheartedly embrace the forthcoming exercise.

The government has declared Friday, May 10, a public holiday to enable citizens to fully participate in the sixth National Housing and Population Census.

The census, slated to run for 10 days from May 10 to May 19, aims to gather crucial information about the country's population and housing demographics.

The activity will begin on Thursday, May 9, when the enumerators and their supervisors start going door-to-door.

RDC ,Mr Kumakech Salim urged the people to stay at home on to ensure the success of the process.

He called upon the public to cooperate with all enumerators to ensure the success of the exercise.

"We urge all Uganda, including religious leaders, to ensure that everyone is counted" said Mr Kumakech.

"But at least, this is a national event, and we appeal to those who are away to inform those at home to cooperate with the authorities since they will be carrying proper identification,"he said.

He appealed to leaders, starting from the LC1 level, to work together to sensitize the community and ensure that everyone fulfills their responsibilities.

The findings from the census are expected to play a pivotal role in government planning efforts, guiding policies, and allocating resources to meet the needs of the population.

This initiative demonstrates the government's commitment to evidence-based decision-making and inclusive development planning for the benefit of all Ugandans.
